Prediction: Patriots win against the spread
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming from a 30-6 win over the
Tennessee Titans in the final week of the preseason. Patrick Mahomes II
completed 9 of 16 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown while Joel Stave added
70 yards and a touchdown in 2-for-2 passes. Tyler Bay threw for 63 yards and a
touchdown in 6-for-8 passes.
The Patriots are averaging 28.8 points and 394.8 total
yards, 282.2 in passing and 112.5 in rushing per games in the preseason.
Defensively, the Patriots are yielding 31.5 points and 407.0 total yards, 270.0
in passing and 137.0 in rushing per game.
The Patriots have been aggressive in attempting to
capitalize on their current championship window. They traded for Dwayne Allen,
Kony Ealy and Brandin Cooks and signed Stephon Gilmore. New England also
re-signed Dont'a Hightower. The Chiefs, meanwhile, re-signed Eric Berry but
have done little else to strengthen their roster. Granted, Kansas City is still
relying on a core of players who have delivered back-to-back trips to the
postseason. New England and Kansas City's Week 1 clash will likely provide a
barometer for the hierarchy in the AFC.
